real life style: rainy shopping day

1 Jun

salaam! yesterday we enjoyed the day off (Memorial Day holiday in the states) and just lounged about. it felt so nice to not have to do anything except go to the grocery store. i wore my new cargo pants from Old Navy and these great new vegan sandals i bought from Simple. i love wearing linen in the summer. i am going to try to buy almost all linen abayas and kurtas for our travels since linen is always so cool and comfy. i am going to make a post on Old Navy hijabs soon inshAllah but let me just say that they are some of the best scarves i have ever bought!

real life style: earthy day

6 May

salaam! i wore this yesterday while running around doing errands. it was sunny and beautiful outside and i wanted to wear my sandals…finally! i also got a new hijab like this one. it was thin and pretty but it is too short in width which makes it hard to style. oh well, i will give it another chance.

Real Life Style: Draping Lace

19 Jan

Oh how I love draped fabrics. They are modest, comfortable and always look relaxed (which I love). My mom gave me a pair of black knit pants that are wide and warm so I wore them with a draped sweater, a lace hijab and a gold clutch. I am in love with these shoes, they are new but look raw and worn-in.

Real Life Style: Thrifting

21 Dec

Last week I went to lunch and thrift store shopping with a few of my friends. I wanted to wear a classic, vintage-inspired outfit and still be warm and modest. I tucked the turtleneck into the skirt and wore a mustard cardigan with pearls. I think it is important for us hijabis to know that we can be stylish, classy and modest all at the same time!

Real Life Style: Sunday Brunch

26 Oct

This week’s real style is the outfit that I wore to brunch yesterday. I went with my good friend Carmen and we ate aged cheddar grits (YUM!) at a place called Handlebar. It is super yummy and I love it since most of the food is vegan or vegetarian. It was a little chilly yesterday, so I wore a vintage polka dot blouse with a sweater vest and paired it with a wool skirt. I always wear tights in the winter since it gets so windy! Some pearls and a bright pair of peach sunglasses made my day extra sunny :)

Real Life Style: Street Fair Fashion

11 Oct

Salaam everyone! This weekend has been so busy, Alhamdulillah! We went to the Maxwell Street Fair again today and enjoyed some INCREDIBLE Mexican food. We ate the only veggie stuff they had, which were hot and yummy stuffed corn cakes with cheese and potatoes…YUM! I wanted a churro (which is a Mexican version of the donut) but I was too full. There was an Ethiopian sister that was selling soaps so we bought a few, including one that smells like a chocolate dessert!

InshAllah I will be able to post the pictures from this weekend soon. We are charging the battery for the camera so it should be ready tomorrow. For this week’s “Real Life Style” I made an outfit very similar to the one that I wore to the fair today. My mom gave me this amazing vintage cape that is SUPER heavy but really warm (even though it only has one button) and I wore it with a wool skirt and a button-down white blouse. I brought out all of my Pashmina hijabs a few days ago because it is getting cold and boy, was my head warm today :)

p.s. I always use a vintage briefcase like the one above. It turns out that habibi’s grandmother used to always use one too. I guess I am just old fashioned haha.
